A last-minute invitation. A group of women brought together by chance. A journey to the Mentawai Islands that reminded us what happens when you say yes —to adventure, to connection, and to trusting what happens next. Because sometimes the best experiences aren't planned.
Emily Puy is the co-founder of Vaya Mentawai and one of the few women navigating life and lineups as the operator of a surf camp in the Mentawai Islands. Originally from France, she now calls the islands home, creating a place where world-class waves, meaningful connection, and local culture come together.

Lulu Erekeneff arrived in the Mentawais with a keen eye for kingfishers and a hunger for barreling lefts. Generous, determined, and fully present in every pursuit, she brought unmistakable stoke to every session, snorkel, and shell walk.

Kira Crage had spent the past year sailing and surfing her way across the globe before meeting us in Jakarta. First to rise, paddle out, crack a joke, and nearly impossible to keep out of the water, Kira carries herself with the easy confidence of someone equally at home in the ocean and in herself.
Hometown: Redondo Beach, CA
Boards Brought: 5 '9 shortboard, 6' 7 midlength, and 9 '3 longboard. Custom shaped by Dan Cobley of Hermosa Beach, California.
Sophia Arky is proof that presence has nothing to do with size. Fearless in the water and endlessly welcoming on land, she had a way of making every lineup, plane ride, boat trip, and shared meal feel like exactly where you were meant to be.
Maria Dominika "Tika" Malica is a surfer from Tololago in the Mentawai Islands and one of the few local women in the lineup. Inspired by her first wave on a broken board, she now encourages more local women to surf while sharing the warmth, culture, and community that make the Mentawais so special.
